Review: Disney’s A Whole New Sound

Now that sounds like a play on Aladdin’s “A Whole New World”, which is one of the rehashed songs in this new album by Yellowcard. Yes, Yellowcard, the band many of us millennials grew up with in the 90s and 2000s, together with so many other punk rock bands of that era. Many of which I’m excited to say have covered the songs in this album!

Yes, in case you were wondering, “A Whole New Sound” is the name of the brand new album from Disney containing 12 very popular and classic songs from your favourite movies over the years. What makes this album unique is the new twist these cover bands have added to the original songs, many of which were vocal powerhouse ballads. Now, they’re head-banging and foot tapping rock tunes in the style of the Simple Plan, Bowling for Soup, Boys Like Girls, and many more.

Being a millennial myself, this album brings about a sense of nostalgia because the songs by these bands were a huge part of my growing up years! It was already after 1985, I was just a kid and was addicted to these punk rock songs, especially when I was love drunk, it was like a great escape - welcome to my life! (How many songs did you recognise?) 

I really enjoyed listening to all these songs, well except one which I actually haven’t heard of from “A Goofy Movie” - yea I confess I didn’t watch that one. Tip: turn up the volume to enjoy the songs more.
