Princess Diaries 3 - Back to Genovia

Anne Hathaway recently confirmed that The Princess Diaries 3 is happening on her social media.

It’s been 20 years since the second film (2004) - that’s insane! - and the first Princess Diaries came out in 2001. I still remember watching these films like it was just last year. For me, that was when I first heard of and saw Anne Hathaway, and I’m sure to many, it was her breakout role. 

In the films, she plays Mia Thermopolis, a regular, shy and awkward American teenager who one fine day finds out that she is the sole heir to the fictional European kingdom of Genovia. She gets whisked off to learn how to be a princess, with the stark contrast in lifestyles bringing memorable laughs. Later on, Mia does get to choose whether to claim or renounce the title she has inherited.

The movies are based on American author Meg Cabot’s popular young-adult novel series of the same name.

Malaysian director Adele Lim will be helming the new film. She previously directed the Disney animated film Raya and the Last Dragon.

And yes, The Princess Dairies are Disney movies (produced by Walt Disney Pictures). 

There isn’t a release date yet but you can catch the first two films on Disney Plus.
