Why you should travel all the way from Asia to Walt Disney World
Living in Singapore, it takes at least 24 hours, if not about 30 hours to travel all the way to Orlando, USA, for Walt Disney World. Is it worth travelling so long and so far?
If you’re a Disney fan, very much yes!
No sugar coating it, it’s definitely a super long journey and it’ll be very tiring.
If you have the means to travel on business class, be it using miles or cash, it’s highly recommended - being able to lie flat to sleep will help a ton in reducing fatigue. But even if not, if you’re a Disney fan, it’ll be worth it. Plus, it’s not like we’re doing it every day or even every year! Unless you love it so much and want to (yea, we’re tempted to).
Why is it worth it?
Walt Disney World

The main reason (for Disney fans) is Walt Disney World. It’s gigantic and there’s no way to really describe it until you’re physically there to experience it. For instance, a straight line from Magic Kingdom to Animal Kingdom is over 7km! And if you’re travelling between these two locations, it’ll be a longer travel distance.
To back track, there are four parks in Walt Disney World: Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom. In addition, there are two water parks. There’s also Disney Springs, a shopping and F&B area.
To put things into perspective, none of these locations are walkable to each other. You’d have to drive, take the free shuttle buses, or the skyliner (cable car) around the resort.
There are rides in Walt Disney World that are unique and cannot be found in any other Disney park around the world. For example, Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind at Epcot, Avatar Flight of Passage and Avatar Na'vi River Journey at Animal Kingdom, and many of the rides and pavilions at Epcot. By the way, these first two rides are absolutely amazing. More about them in another post, but words can’t fully describe how you feel taking those rides, you really have to experience them first hand.
More on Walt Disney World in future posts!
Disney Cruises

Living in Singapore - or Asia for that matter - puts us in a place where there are zero Disney cruises at the moment. The closest Disney cruise sails from Australia and New Zealand, and they only sail during the Southern Hemisphere summer (i.e. around Nov to Feb). Yes all that’s going to change from Dec 2025 when we get the Disney Adventure sailing from Singapore and later on the cruises from Japan. But for the past decades (forever), you’d have to go pretty far away to sail on a Disney cruise.
And being Disney fans, it’s hard to say no to trying out the Disney cruises. In Florida, there are two ports where the Disney ships sail from, and there are at least four different ships that sail from these two ports. The two newest ships, the Disney Wish and Disney Treasure, both sail from Florida.
Travelling all the way to Florida, you get to combine going to both Walt Disney World and try out one or more Disney cruises. These cruises go to different locations, depending on the one you choose. These include Nassau, Bahamas, Mexico, or Disney’s private islands - Castaway Cay and Lookout Cay. We won’t get to experience these interesting port calls on the Singapore cruise!
Stay tuned for more about our experience on the Disney Wish from Orlando!
Shh, yes Universal Studios

Yes, we’re a Disney blog, but I’m sure if you’re going to travel halfway across the globe, you’re going to want to maximise your stay in Orlando. The city is known as the “theme park capital” of the world not for no reason. Universal has two parks in Orlando - Universal Studios Florida and Universal Islands of Adventure. The parks have unique Harry Potter rides that other Universal parks around the world don’t, such as Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure.
NASA

There’s also the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The Apollo rockets and space shuttles were launched from there. There are tours and a visitor complex (like a museum), and if you’d like to, you can time your visit to when there is a live spacecraft launch.
So these are some of the reasons to take that crazy long journey from Singapore (or Asia) to Florida. It helps a lot of you're Disney motivated!
